There’s a saying in clean energy, "The best time to transition was yesterday, the second best time is today." With the arrival of early fall, we’re embracing the moment and driving progress through company-wide volunteer events, VR education in schools, and more renewable energy projects. It has been a busy yet rewarding month! Let’s dive in...
Our Green Acres project with AEP/Appalachian Power will be our largest Madison project in Virginia to date! This ground mount tracker site will generate 6,870 total kW (DC) and 11,447 MWh annually. The project is currently under construction and is set to reach completion later this year.
This month, we explore the revival of Pennsylvania's retired nuclear plant, Three Mile Island, set to reopen in 2028 to power Microsoft’s data centers. Meanwhile, the Inflation Reduction Act has fueled significant growth in domestic solar manufacturing, with U.S. solar manufacturing capacity quadrupling since the bill's passage in 2022.
Three Mile Island, a retired nuclear plant in PA, will reopen in 2028 to power Microsoft’s data centers. Constellation and Microsoft entered into a 20 year Power Purchase Agreement.
The Inflation Reduction Act has fueled a growth in domestic solar manufacturing. Since the bill’s passage in 2022, solar manufacturing capacity in the US has quadrupled.
The month marks movement in clean energy in Minnesota, Texas, and Maine.
Madison, along with Stafford County Public Schools, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony last month to unveil Virginia's largest school rooftop solar array, located at North Stafford High School. We were joined with Heather Boushey, Chief Economist for the Investing in America Cabinet at the White House, Virginia State Senators Tara Durant and Jeremy McPike, Stafford County Board of Supervisor member Dr. Pamela Yeung, and Stafford School Board Chair Maureen Siegmund.

This past week, Madison partnered with SolarBuddy during our quarterly for an inspiring volunteer event. Together, we assembled solar lights that will bring life-changing light to children in need around the world. SolarBuddy's mission is to combat poverty and climate change by providing solar lights to communities without electricity. These lights empower children to study after dark, improve health by eliminating toxic kerosene, and create opportunities for brighter futures. We are proud to contribute to a cause that brings both immediate and lasting impact.
This quarterly was a particularly exciting event as it was hosted in our brand new Tysons, VA office! We heard from various leaders in the company including Madison’s own Steve Cunningham who discussed the role artificial intelligence has played in shaping the clean energy sector and how it will continue to grow in our company. The day ended with some healthy competition through indoor putt-putt and a golf simulator. We’re not saying who has the best celebration dance *cough* Nathaniel *cough*.
What better way to teach the future generations about solar education, than putting them right in the mix of it. Along with providing solar to North Stafford High School’s rooftop, Madison’s Solar Empowered Schools also brought an interactive lesson to students at North Stafford. Students were able see their school’s rooftop with the VR headset that was subsequently gifted to the school. The VR deep dive educated students on the benefits and features of the solar array while encouraging them to be a part of clean energy’s future. SES also gave hands on lessons and roundtable discussions lead by Madison’s Director of Energy Solutions, Meghan Milo.
Brandon Black & Shayne Hughes
In 2005, Brandon Black became CEO of Encore Capital, a company struggling with a declining stock price and low morale. With the help of Learning as Leadership (LaL) and its president Shayne Hughes, Brandon and his team tackled unproductive ego habits, fostering better collaboration and performance. This transformation led Encore to thrive during the 2008 financial crisis, increasing profits by 300% and its stock price by 1200%, as detailed in Ego Free Leadership.
With over 900 official events across the city—and thousands of informal gatherings—this Climate Week NYC was easily the most impactful meeting of climate-focused professionals. Just one of many impactful takeaway moments comes from The Climate Group and their call for faster climate action. Their video, which debuted at Climate Week, highlights a one-year to-do list of seven ambitious actions: transitioning from coal, accelerating renewables, banning coal-dependent steel plants, addressing methane leaks, improving energy efficiency, prioritizing clean procurement, and using oil and gas profits to fund climate solutions. The message is clear: delay is dangerous, and bold, immediate action is needed to avoid further harm to the planet.
